As International Women's Day unfolds on the global stage once again, it serves as a poignant reminder of the strides we've made and the journey that still lies ahead. For me, as both a mother of two girls and a female business leader in York, this day holds profound significance, blending personal reflections with professional aspirations and societal hopes.

First and foremost, as a mother raising daughters, International Women's Day prompts me to reflect on the world I want my girls to inherit. It's a day to instil in them the values of equality, resilience, and empowerment. I want them to grow up in a world where their gender doesn't define their opportunities or limit their aspirations. I want them to know that they can be whoever they want to be, that their voices matter, and that they are deserving of every opportunity to thrive and succeed on their own terms. As they navigate their journey through adolescence, I strive to be a role model who exemplifies the principles of strength, compassion, and determination. I want to show them that being a woman is not a barrier but a source of power and resilience. Whether it's encouraging them to pursue their interests fearlessly or teaching them to stand up for themselves and others, I am committed to nurturing their growth into confident, compassionate, and empowered women.

Simultaneously, as a female business leader, International Women's Day offers a platform to celebrate the achievements of women professionally. Many communities continue to grapple with issues of gender inequality, wage disparities, and underrepresentation of women in leadership roles.

However, amidst these challenges, there's also a sense of momentum and possibility. I'm committed to fostering a culture that not only embraces these principles but actively promotes them.

For me, International Women's Day is not just about one day of recognition. It's about amplifying the voices of women, championing their achievements, and advocating for meaningful change at every level of society. It's about challenging stereotypes, dismantling barriers, and creating a more equitable and inclusive world for future generations.

The journey towards gender equality is a collective endeavour that requires the commitment and collaboration of individuals, organisations, and communities. It's about recognising that we all have a role to play, whether it's through mentorship or advocacy.

As I reflect on International Women's Day 2024, I'm reminded of the immense potential that lies within each and every one of us to effect positive change. Whether as a mother nurturing the next generation of women leaders or as a business leader shaping the landscape of opportunity, our actions today have the power to shape the world of tomorrow.

So let us celebrate the achievements of women past and present, honour the diversity of experiences and perspectives that enrich our communities, and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of a more inclusive future for all.

Happy International Women's Day!
