Exploring York – Foxwood

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Foxwood is a vibrant residential area that seems to have had its fair share of bad luck over the years where the media is concerned and is often overlooked as a place to set up home.

One of the best things about Foxwood is its convenient location. Situated just a few miles away from York city centre, this inviting neighbourhood provides easy access to all the major attractions that York has to offer. Whether you want to explore the historic York Minster, take a stroll along the picturesque River Ouse, or indulge in some retail therapy at the famous Shambles, all of these attractions are just a short drive or bus journey away from Foxwood. Foxwood also benefits from its close proximity to the A1237 & A64, making it easy to access Tadcaster, Wetherby, Leeds and beyond!

Take a walk around the neighbourhood and you'll be greeted by beautiful green spaces, stunning views of the countryside and a variety of people from all walks of life. Foxwood has a strong sense of community, with many local events and activities taking place throughout the year, especially at the Foxwood Community Centre. The Foxwood Residents Association is an active group that meets often at Foxwood Community Centre. They are open to all residents and have a Facebook page where they share updates and news about the area.

There are also plenty of walking and cycling paths in and around Foxwood, making it the perfect place to enjoy some outdoor activities. Hob Moor Nature Reserve is part of the Knavesmire, one of York's ancient commons. The land is unimproved pasture which is traditionally grazed over the summer months by cows but it also has a convenient cycle path connecting Foxwood to Holgate and the racecourse.

Foxwood also has a great selection of places to eat, Buongiorno Bistro located on Acomb Wood Drive serves Italian and Sardinian Food and is a must-try place for anyone visiting the area but Foxwood also has traditional pub grub and all your usual takeaways. Salsa Pizza and Butlers Fish and Chips are two of my personal favourites!

If you're looking for a place to live, Foxwood is an excellent choice and is popular with families. The neighbourhood has a range of properties to suit different budgets and preferences, from comfortable apartments to spacious Sawdon and Simpson built family homes. There are two fantastic schools that serve most of the families that live locally, Westfield Primary School located on Askham Lane and York High School located on Cornlands Road.

I believe Foxwood is a home buyers’ gem in York that offers a perfect blend of convenience, nature and community spirit. So why not come and explore this active neighbourhood for yourself?
